On June 17, 2020, Prof. Gottfried Konecny, former head of the Institute for Photogrammetry and GeoInformation (IPI) at Leibniz Universität Hannover, Honorary Member of the German and the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing as well as a number of other scientific associations, celebrated his 90th birthday. Gottfried Konecny had taken over the institute in 1971 when he returned from Canada after 12 years, making it one of the best addresses in photogrammetry and remote sensing worldwide. He retired in 1998, but is still one of the most important and well-known representatives of our field worldwide. On the occasion of his birthday, his former institute organized a video conference with about 200 participants, in which various companions and students gave lectures about their cooperation with and connection to Gottfried Konecny.
